Dr. Alison M. Heru is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Colorado at Denver, Aurora. She has been a member of the Association of Family Psychiatrists since 2002 and currently serves as the organization’s treasurer. In addition, she is the coauthor of two books on working with families and author of numerous articles on this topic.

Curbside Consult

Curbside Consult is an occasional column aimed at helping psychiatrists factor in family and cultural considerations when treating patients. It will examine case vignettes sent in by readers and will be written by two Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry committees ¬– the Committee on Family Psychiatry and the Committee on Cultural Psychiatry. The vignettes will shield pertinent details to ensure both patients’ and clinicians’ privacy.

Dr. Annette Hanson, is a forensic psychiatrist with appointments at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Steven Roy Daviss is a hospital-based psychiatrist and medical informatician who is on the faculty of Washington Medical Center. He can be found on LinkedIn.

Together, they wrote the book Shrink Rap, created the blog Shrink Rap, and My Three Shrinks, a podcast series about psychiatry.

Thelissa A. Harris, M.D., a diplomat of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, is in private practice in adult and geriatric psychiatry in Hartford, Conn. She also works as a psychiatric consultant to continuing care retirement organizations and professional groups. Dr. Harris is a former president of the Black Psychiatrists of America and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Besides psychotherapy, her major clinical interests include geriatrics, and the interface between general medicine and psychiatry.
